About our food

Our recipes have their roots throughout Thailand but our cooking style is from Bangkok. We have a big menu, but don't despair, it's OK for us to have a big menu. Think of our menu like a sandwich shop -- you have a lot of ingredients and each sandwich is unique such that your menu could be limitless. We're the same way, we have a few things we make like soups, fried rice, noodles, and stir-fried items. In Thailand, the dishes all have different names but they share common ingredients. That's why our menu is big and we can still make each of the items really well. The items we have represent an all-star list of food items in Bangkok.

Our groceries are brought in fresh everyday. Our produce comes in direct, virtually farm to table. Our storage is limited and we are high volume, so that means by the end of every night our refrigerators are nearly empty. With careful attention to what items sell and what items don't sell well, we've been able to limit our menu to items that will be fresh. Our meats are brought in daily. We have an investment in an industrial food slicer that cuts our meats, increases food safety, consistency, and can supply us with up to 3,000 pounds an hour of sliced meats! Whereas the other restaurants have prep staff hand slicing meats at a turtles pace and exposing the meat to unsafe temperatures, we can process what takes them an hour in less than a minute. All chicken meat with the exception of our BBQ chicken and teriyaki chicken comes from fresh chicken white meat, not frozen.

With all of our sauces made in house, sourced using ingredients without MSG, we have a unique product with unique recipes that we hope you will enjoy.

Ekkamai History

Ekkamai Thai Restaurant gets its name from an area in Bangkok at Sukhumvit Soi 63. Situated next to trendy Thonglor, it's where old meets new and is diverse in food and culture.

Founded in 2010, our goal was to bring authentic Thai food to the West LA area. Bringing authentic Thai food to the area came with numerous challenges such as sourcing ingredients and changing the perceptions of what Thai food really is. People in the area were used to pad thai sauces which used ketchup as a main ingredient. Thai food on the West side was too sweet, too salty, saturated with MSG, and lacked traditional recipes. It was a challenge, but we've found that our customers appreciate our efforts and we love you for that.

Thai food is ever changing and as dynamic as any cuisine out there. Our menu will continue to evolve with new dishes that we hope will delight you. The inspiration for our restaurant name is expressed in our menu. It's old meets new while still rich in tradition and unmistakably Thai.

We are not a hipster restaurant though hipsters are welcome. I have no tattoos, I don't instagram or take selfies. "Foodies" don't throw around my name like I'm someone famous because I'm not, though some customers will recognize me at Costco. We have a single location and plan to keep it that way to maintain focus, quality, and make it a fixture on the westside. We can expand to other parts of town but we just wouldn't be as good so you will see any future expansion right here where we started. We just want to make good Thai food and sell it at a reasonable price to be a good everyday option for everyone -- without the hype.
